Hey everyone! Just a quick side post today. My oldest daughter is in a cheerleading competition and has two performances of her school play! In fact I am writing this post from the gym of her cheerleading competition.
So we tend to focus on the meat when we talk BBQ but we need a little something on the side to add variety to the meal. A staple of BBQ sides are baked beans. Today we are going to really mix it up.
What you will need:
- 1 can red kidney beans
- 1 can black beans
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 Stick of butter (4 teaspoons)
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/2 Pack of Bacon
- 1 sauce pot
- 1 strainer
Ok this is going to be crazy good! Put the strainer over the sauce pot and open the beans. Dump the beans into the strainer so that all the bean liquid goes into the pot. Move the beans to the side right now and add the brown sugar to the bean liquid. Turn the heat to medium-high and bring it to a boil. While it’s heating up add the butter to the mix. This will make a bean flavored caramel sauce! Add the beans back in and add the water. Bring everything to a boil and start adding bacon. Put a lid on it and turn it down to a simmer. Let that go for about 15-20 minutes so the bacon adds it’s mark.
Enjoy and let me know how it turns out!
